FILM FESTIVAL
The 2008 Marin County Fair Festival of Short Film and Video could be dubbed the "best of the fests" because almost every film has been honored at film festivals around the world this year. Jonathan Browning's "The Job" won the Audience Choice Award at the DC International Shorts Fest by bringing humor to the immigration debate. San Francisco's own Jay Rosenblatt screened his documentary "I Just Wanted To Be Somebody" at the Sundance Film Festival. And Rosenblatt's cinematic poem "Afraid So," voiced by Garrison Keillor, screened at a trio of cutting edge festivals: Rotterdam, Toronto and Tribeca. Our choice for Best Animated work is Reiko Murakami's "Kujira." This spare and beautifully quiet film screened at Tokyo's Digital Arts Festival. Another star voice you'll recognize is Alec Baldwin narrating "Wind" - our Best Environmental prize winner from director Chel White. A timely perspective on climate change, "Wind" was commissioned for the Live Earth Film Project and screened at the Portland International Film Festival. And if you heard the buzz at the Mill Valley Film Festival about the fun fable "Validation," this is your chance to see Kurt Kuenne's engaging film for yourself. So grab your seat and see what audiences have been cheering for all around the festival circuit this year.
The screening of the award-winning films listed below runs 100 minutes and starts at 5 pm and 7 pm in the 330-seat Showcase Theatre daily, July 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The festival is free with gate admission to the Marin County Fair.
